Cascina Penna Currado
The Estate
Cascina Penna-Currado is a new project launched in 2023 by the Penna-Currado Vietti family, following their historic experience with Vietti. Based in Serralunga d'Alba, the winery adopts an artisanal and organic approach, focusing on biodiversity and soils of marine origin rich in clay and limestone.
The estate includes 13 hectares of vineyards in San Sebastiano di Monforte, cultivating Dolcetto, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, and Nebbiolo d’Alba, alongside Barolo vineyards across different communes. The wines emphasize freshness, elegance, and verticality, moving away from over-concentration toward a more contemporary style. The Nebbiolo Langhe Bricco Lago 2023 reflects a balance between intensity and delicacy, while the upcoming Timorasso Derthona expands the winery’s forward-looking vision.
The winery is housed in a restored 16th-century farmhouse in Serralunga d'Alba, historically used for vinification by the Falletti and Opera Pia estates. Carefully renovated with sustainable and energy-efficient solutions, it represents a dialogue between heritage and innovation within the UNESCO-listed Barolo landscape.
Cascina Penna-Currado embodies a balance of tradition, experimentation, and respect for the land.

The Wine

The estate focuses on a selection of wines sourced primarily from vineyards in San Sebastiano di Monforte, an area known for its suitability for Nebbiolo and other traditional varieties.
Nebbiolo d’Alba San Sebastiano comes from vineyards aged between 25 and 65 years, expressing structure and depth.
Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Lago is sourced from younger vines, up to 25 years old, offering a more immediate and approachable profile.
Barbera d’Alba Superiore Carrà is produced from vineyards aged between 25 and 70 years, combining concentration with balance.
Dolcetto d’Alba Bricco Lago, with an average vine age of around 40 years, reflects a fresh and fruit-driven character.
In addition to these wines, the winery also explores the potential of Timorasso in the Colli Tortonesi area.
Timorasso Derthona E.P. comes from vineyards in Berzano di Tortona, with vines around 15 years old and an east-facing exposure. This project reflects a strong interest in the versatility and future potential of the Timorasso grape, which has become a central element in the winery’s vision.
